FAQs

Do you require an evaluation before starting therapy?

Typically, yes. A comprehensive evaluation helps us understand your child’s specific needs and create an individualized plan for therapy. However, if your child has already been evaluated by a school or another provider, we’re happy to review those results to determine if a new evaluation is necessary.

Where do sessions take place?

We offer therapy in a variety of convenient settings:

  • At your child’s private school or daycare

  • At libraries or other suitable locations

  • Via teletherapy sessions

Do you accept insurance?

Speech Matters RVA is currently a private-pay practice and does not bill insurance at this time. However, we can provide a Superbill that you can submit to your insurance company for possible reimbursement. We hope to accept insurance in the future.

How long are therapy sessions?

Most sessions are 30-45 minutes long, though this may vary depending on your child’s age, goals, and attention span. We’ll work with you to find a schedule that meets your child’s needs

How often will my child need therapy?

This depends on your child’s individual goals and needs. After the initial evaluation or consultation we’ll recommend a therapy schedule—often one to two sessions per week—that supports meaningful progress.

Can you work with my child if they already receive services at school?

Yes! Many families choose to supplement school-based services with private therapy. One on one additional support can help your child make faster, more consistent progress.

Do I need a referral?

No referral is needed to schedule an evaluation or to begin speech therapy services at Speech Matters RVA. You can contact us directly to get started.
